Not many people realize what’s really causing their chronic pain.

Even after they go to the doctor or talk to an expert, they might not know the name of the one thing causing them grief.

The doctor may say “nerve pain” or even give a diagnosis like “arthritis,” but that’s not the real catalyst. It’s inflammation.

It can be traced to the root of just about every human condition involving pain, Joint pain, Muscle pain, and Nerve pain.

They’re all different, but inflammation plays a major role in why your pain persists.

To fight back, you need to know more than the name of your condition.

You need to know how to combat inflammation.

ChiroSolutions Center teaches our Virginia Beach, VA patients all about inflammation, no matter what their unique diagnosis may be.

Here’s what you need to know about fighting back:

Antioxidants are powerful

The most direct way to counter inflammation is through anti-inflammatory foods, high in antioxidants. These foods naturally mimic prescription medications without the negative side effects. Berries in particular are extremely powerful inflammation fighters, and should be a part of your diet daily. Studies have shown berries are often as effective at fighting inflammation as OTC anti-inflammatory medications!

Exercise is important

When you’re in pain or have inflamed muscles or joints, the last thing you want to do is work out. But studies show it might be the best thing you can do. Low-impact exercises get your blood pumping, which helps to oxygenate your cells. Your body also releases endorphins that both downplay pain and improve mood. Exercise can also condition muscle groups that may be underutilized due to pain. Hop on a stationary bike, elliptical machine, or into the pool for a quick fight against inflammation.

Stress is bad

When you’re stressed, your body produces a chemical called cortisol. At the right levels, cortisol is a good thing – it keeps your body alert. When cortisol levels are too high, however, the body suffers from major inflammation problems. So, to reduce inflammation you need to reduce your cortisol levels, which means reducing stress. Learning mindful meditation and calming techniques is a great way to fight back against inflammation. More important is getting good, restful sleep.

Diet is critical

More than just eating a bunch of berries, make sure you’re not eating inflammatory foods. Red meat, processed foods, and sugary treats will all cause inflammation and put you at risk of painful inflammatory conditions. Instead, eat leafy greens, veggies, fish, and nuts to keep inflammation in-check. You might be surprised at how much better you feel in just a few days!

Inflammation is a major problem, especially when it affects spine health.

Arthritic conditions, ankylosing spondylitis, sacroiliitis, sciatica, and countless other painful chronic conditions all have inflammation at the core.
